A CALL for action has been issued to everyone eligible for The BIG Bolton Health Check.
Health bosses fear they will fail to meet their target of testing 100 per cent of people before March next year, unless there is a drastic shift in attitude.
Since the campaign was launched in June almost 11,000 people have had the simple 10-minute assessment, which involves a blood pressure test, a cholesterol check and a few simple lifestyle questions.
But health chiefs still need to test a further 30,725 people aged over 45 in the next five months.
At the current rate of testing, just 92 per cent of Bolton’s population in the target age group will have had the test before March.
Dr Stephen Liversedge, a leading Bolton GP who is spearheading the campaign, said: “It isn’t bad that we have tested so many people but we still have more than 30,000 to do and are looking at only achieving 92 per cent.
“A lot of people have contacted us to say they have had their invitation and that it is on their list of things to do but we are urging them to make it their number one priority.”
