A BOLTON bakery is leading the way when it comes to being green — and is cleaning up at awards ceremonies.
Sayers the Bakers recently won a golden gong at this year’s Keep Britain Tidy awards.
And it is in line for more glory after being shortlisted in the commercial recycling category at the letsrecycle.com Awards for Excellence later this month.
Now company bosses are planning to enter The Bolton News’ Green Heroes competition, which rewards the town’s most environmentally friendly people and organisations.
Karon Marsay, head of technical at the Sayers base in Sidney Street, Bolton, said: “We have an excellent segregation system in place for recycling waste from our shops and the bakery.
“We recycle bread into fish food and also recycle all our cardboard. We are delighted to win this award and to be nominated for another.
“I would like to say a big thank you to both the Bolton bakery and the shop managers across the North-west for all their hard work.”
Sayers employs 350 staff at Sidney Street. The company has been making sure food items which can be reused are identified and separated from other waste. All packaging is also put forward for recycling.
Staff at the firm have been celebrating their successes . . . by baking. A themed cake has been created to recognise the company’s achievements and features recycling logos.
The firm is planning to enter the greenest business category of the Green Heroes competition, which is being run by The Bolton News in conjunction with the Middlebrook Retail and Leisure park.
