I refer to the letter from Mrs Hamer, Harwood (Readers Views, Saturday, October 4) regarding “Numpty” Nick Hogan and his anti-smoking stance.

The conviction is sound — it is the law of the land, like it or not. This chap was very “brave” when he was encouraging people to smoke but seems less so now that it is about to hit his pocket big time. I hope that, on appeal, the fine is doubled.

I do not know which poll showed what the “majority of Boltonians” were against the smoking ban, but smokers are in the minority and pubs, restaurants and other public buildings are much more pleasant to visit now. Finally, regarding separate areas for smokers and non-smokers, this is already in existence — inside for non — and outside for smokers!
