Buxton 0 Leigh Genesis 0: Jordan Stepien’s second missed penalty of the season proved costly as Genesis returned from Buxton with only a point.
The result took Steve Bleasdale’s side to within three points of the play-off places but they would have been closer still if Stepien had converted his second half spot-kick after Leigh had dominated the first half.
Genesis sub Matt Berkeley was brought down by Buxton keeper Scott Hartley, whose excellent save left Stepien ruing his second penalty miss following on from last month’s 1-1 draw at Nantwich Town.
Harrogate Railway’s 2-1 Preliminary Round victory over FC Halifax Town means Leigh visit Station View in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy on October 18.
