RESIDENTS battling plans for a new estate on a former railway cutting are to hold a public meeting.
The protesters are opposed to proposals to build 117 houses on land off Long Lane in Darcy Lever.
Blackthorn Homes — the company behind the development — already has permission to build 50 houses on the east side of the road, but is now seeking permission to build more houses on the west side.
Residents campaigned against the first application and the plan was rejected by Bolton Council.
That decision was overturned by a Government inspector on appeal.
Cllr Sean Hornby, chairman of Bolton Council’s planning committee, has organised a public meeting, which will be held next Thursday, from 7pm, at Leverhulme Park Community Centre in Long Lane.
Cllr Hornby said: “As chairman of planning and knowing the history of the site and various applications, I felt it best to allow supporters and objectors the opportunity to put their views forward on this application."
A spokesman for Blackthorn Homes said a member of staff would be present at the meeting to answer residents' questions.
