SCIENCE is being made magical for pupils at Sharples School in Bolton.
Not only have pupils been treated to a magic show, the newly-refurbished science blocks have been unveiled.
The school in Hill Cot Road, which is a specialist science college, held two days of shows for pupils at the school and local primary school children.
Magician Ian B Dunne staged shows for the youngsters, as well as a special performance for adults, to demonstrate how science can be used in magic.
Assistant headteacher and science teacher, Sarfraz Shah, said: “We wanted to show that science has a fun aspect to it. The magician used sound and electricity to perform his magic tricks.
“We are a science specialist college and want to get people, whatever their age, interested in science.
“By engaging children from primary school through to secondary school we hope it will increase post-16 participation in science. The country does need more scientists.”
Yesterday, the school opened its three refurbished science laboratories.
The £75,000 revamp was paid for by the school and governing body.
Mr Shah said: “Modern facilities do make a difference to learning.
“It promotes a positive attitude among the pupils and engages them more in their learning.
“These laboratories are open to all schools in Bolton to use, which will, hopefully, encourage more youngsters to become scientists.”
