Bolton West MP Ruth Kelly has just revealed exactly why she has left the Cabinet.

She told Sky News: "The decision was taken for personal reasons. I owe it to my family to put them first.

"I spoke to Gordon Brown [about this decision] in May. I'm a great supporter of the Labour Party.

"I cannot think of anyone better than Gordon Brown to lead this party.

"He is a towering figure in the Labour Party. He is the sort of leader we need to make our economy stronger."
