A SCHOOL in Horwich is bidding to become the first in the borough with “foundation status”.
Lever Park Special School wants to make the change to get greater independence and better “meet the needs of its pupils”.
If it gets the go-ahead, the school would be financially supported by a charitable trust which would appoint some members of the governing body.
The school’s partners would be the Friends of Lever Park, University of Bolton, Savant Distribution Limited, Rathbone, a charitable organisation which provides post-16 vocational education and Bolton Council.
The school’s special educational needs project manager Carole Darbyshire said: “We have been working towards this for the past 12 months. It is a very exciting time for the school."
Do foundation schools make a difference?
