BOLTON town centre rang out to the sound of steel and wood as traditional sword and morris dancers entertained crowds of shoppers yesterday.

Bolton’s Rumworth Morris group was joined by the Southport Swords as they performed a series of dances in Victoria Square and outside Ye Olde Man and Scythe in Churchgate.

Rumworth Morris has been performing at festivals and events around the country during the summer.

Dancer Jim Fox, of Ashford Close, Harwood, said returning to Bolton was like playing an end of season football match at home.

They were followed by Southport Swords, which performed traditional English long-sword dances.

Rumworth Morris is now looking for new members. The group meets on the third Thursday of every month at Deane Memorial Church Hall, Deane, at 8.30pm.
