Pirates were in good voice when they took over North House Nursery in Sharples.

But there was no need to abandon ship as swashbuckling staff and youngsters at the nursery were simply marking “International Talk Like a Pirate Day”.

North House has been marking the little known day for the past two days after stumbling across it on the internet.

Manager Lorna Delvard: “This day does actually exist, though I’m not quite sure what it marks. For us though, it is a lot of fun. Everyone dressed up and the staff talked like pirates, while the youngsters did try.”
