JUST over half of Boltonians are in favour of paying a congestion charge to travel into Manchester, according to a poll.
Figures published by pro-charge campaign group United City say that 51 per cent would pay the peak-time charge if it meant multi-billion pound investment in public transport.
The survey, conducted by independent pollsters Mori, found that in Greater Manchester’s other nine local authority areas results ranged from 49 per cent in Bury to 58 per cent in Wigan.
At least seven out the ten councils will have to vote “yes” for the controversial plans to be approved and the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) money to be secured.
Bolton Council’s Labour administration has promised to vote in accordance to an official poll of every adult in the borough which is due to be held in early December.
