The three martial arts wizards from Elite Thai-Kick Boxing Gym are showing off their sports knowledge in a TV quiz called The Barmy Army Game Show.
They will be pitting their wits against competitors from various other sports ranging from crown-green bowlers to rugby players.
25 YEARS AGO From the Evening News September 2, 1983 Police are now satisfied there is no danger at the Westhoughton factory which was the scene of drugs and chemicals finds.
Last week’s haul, which included anaesthetics and antibiotics, has now been destroyed. And the chemicals discovered yesterday by workers who have sub-let part of the Peel Street site are now under lock and key.
50 YEARS AGO From the Evening News September 2, 1958 Eleven-years-old Rosemary Hunt, 211, Deane Church-lane, Bolton, was playing with her father’s cigarette lighter in the pantry at her home last night when it lit suddenly and burnt her hand. She dropped it on to a heap of paper on the floor and the paper caught fire.
Mr. J. T. Hunt, her father, tackled the blaze with buckets of water.
100 YEARS AGO From the Evening News September 2, 1908 A bricklayer, who was charged with getting into arrears under a magisterial industrial school order, was described by Chief Inspector Hill as “one of the most idle men Bolton possesses.” Although defendant could earn £2 a week at his trade, his wife had to go out washing to keep herself and a child.
