ALL I have on the back of today’s photograph are the words “Bradshaw Brow”, but we know what happened here in 1945 don’t we?
It seems that two Tonge Moor trams, number 408 and what could be 415 for the one to the back, had a coming together. Naturally, a crowd of small boys formed!
I am not sure whereabouts in Bradshaw Brow, but it does look like a spot where two sets of tram tracks merged into one.
As a youngster, I remember a film, starring someone like Old Mother Riley or George Formby, where two tram drivers raced to be first at such a junction.
I would not be surprised if that is what had happened here.
It is odd, though, that neither tram appears to have any body damage.
It rather looks as though they have lifted off their chassis.
