This Friday (30th), the Reebok Stadium (Lion of Vienna Room), 7:30pm - 9:30pm.
We will be discussing community decline - loss of post offices, bus services, shops, high streets, local services etc. People are fed up with endless consultations and not having any say or power over what actually happens in and around the places they live.
We will also be proposing a solution - the Sustainable Communities Bill. If made law this Bill will give communities and councils powers to make their own decisions, reversing the current situation where civil servants in Whitehall make too many decisions for us.
The Bill is currenlty in Parliament and supported by over 400 MPs (a massive majority). If local MP, Ruth Kelly, decides to back it will be law by summer. A big turnout will influence here.
Speaking will be Campaign Orgniser for the Bill - Ron Bailey, Bolton West Conservative Candidate - Susan Williams and Bolton Lib Dem Leader - Barbara Ronson. Ruth Kelly MP has been invited but has not yet said if she will attend. Short speeches will be followed by a lengthy discussion. There will also be free food and drink.
If you care about your community and want more of a say on how it is developed or conserved: be there!
