A coffee shop has been taken over by new owners hoping to "bring something different" to the borough.

Jay and Sam Morgan took over Sweet Revenge on Ridgway in Blackrod in November and renamed it Morgan’s Coffee Bar.

Both aged 32, they said that owning a coffee shop had always been their dream.

“Then the opportunity came up, we knew the previous owners, and recently got married in August so my wife changed her name to Morgan.”

They want it to be a place where locals can spend time and have tried to make it welcoming for older people too.

“We get locals coming in quite regularly and something they really enjoy is, not even spending a lot of money, but just coming in and talking to people."

Unlike many other coffee shops, Morgan’s Coffee Bar doesn’t just sell coffee and cakes, but has chilli and jacket potatoes as well.

Jay said: “I don’t think just coffee and cakes would be massively popular without other stuff, the kind of selling point we have been doing is chilli and jacket potatoes.”

“It’s my own chilli – it’s a recipe I’ve created over the years.

“We had a young lad come in and order a chilli and potato in the morning, at half past 10… I was like ‘I could eat well in the morning, but I don’t think even I could stomach a chilli and jacket potato at that time'.”

Sam decorated the windows with poppies for Remembrance Sunday and designed the new logo.

Jay said: “My wife is very good at art, she painted all the windows for Remembrance Sunday, people come in and say ‘it looks lovely, it looks really nice’.

She said that they have many ideas for the future, including pop-up events and activities in the evenings.

Jay said: “One idea is a rum-tasting evening with Caribbean food, obviously not every month, but every couple of months.

“Just to bring something different into Blackrod really.”
