The Bee Network is set to be transformed into a 'festive wonderland' this weekend, with Santa ready to hand out thousands of free gifts.

Passengers across Greater Manchester should be on the lookout for Santa, who will be ditching his traditional red attire for a special yellow outfit as he rides the network.

To mark the beginning of the Christmas season, Shudehill tram stop has been renamed 'Sleighill,' and Market Street is now 'Christmas Market Street.'

These new names will remain throughout November and December.

Santa will be giving away thousands of free gifts including mini trams and buses filled with sweets, along with Bee Network pin badges.

However, to get a free gift, passengers need to look out for a specific phrase on the Bee Network social media channels and say it to Santa when they spot him in his yellow suit.

Fran Wilkinson, customer and growth director at TfGM, said: "We’re getting into the festive spirit at TfGM, and I am so pleased Santa has been able to take some time out of his busy schedule in the run-up to December 25 to say ‘yell-ho-ho-ho’ to our passengers and give out free gifts.

"It’s a joyful time in Manchester with the Christmas markets and events at the Trafford Centre and MediaCityUK.

"We are excited to be adding to the festive spirit by booking Santa for our city-region, and we hope people will enjoy spotting him out on the transport network."

Families can make use of discounted tickets, with one to three children and one or two adults able to enjoy unlimited off-peak travel on any bus for £9, or use of the full Metrolink network over an entire weekend for £9.50.

The Bee Network also offers multiple tram and bus stops across the city centre and Starling Bank bikes for 'convenient and affordable travel.'

The V1 and 36 bus services, connecting Manchester with Leigh and Bolton via Salford, now operate 24 hours a day.

Those who do drive are encouraged to use one of the park-and-ride sites across the Metrolink, bus and train network before completing the final part of their journey by public transport.

People are encouraged to share their Santa selfies and tag @BeeNetworkgm or @BeeNetwork on X or use the hashtag #ChristmasBeeNetwork.
