Police officers discovered another town centre cannabis farm this week after being called to reports of a burglary.

Officers were called on Wednesday night to Bradshawgate to reports of a break-in at an empty property.

As they arrived a group fled the scene but officers managed to catch them and also found weapons in a vehicle said to be involved in the incident.

It was when they search the premises they discovered a huge cannabis farm, spanning four floors.

A spokesman for GMP Bolton said: "Last night, officers responded to reports of an ongoing burglary at a disused business premises on Bradshawgate.

"Upon arrival, a group of males made off from officers. After a swift foot chase, four were detained and weapons recovered from a vehicle involved in the incident.

"A search of the premises located two further males and a substantial cannabis farm spanning four floors. 407 plants and a large quantity of equipment has been seized for destruction.

"Four males were arrested on suspicion of robbery, with two further males arrested on suspicion of production of a class B controlled drug. All remain under investigation for the offences."

A cannabis farm was found at the former Williams BMW premises on Bradshawgate in 2021 when plants worth £1m were discovered.

In November 2022 a cannabis farm was discovered in Bolton town centre after police were called to a suspected burglary.

More than 300 plants were found growing in the basement of premises on Deansgate.

In January 2021 police located a cannabis farm producing drugs that had an estimated street value of half-a-million pounds, in an abandoned bank on Wood Street.

It came as a result of information officers received from the public.

Officers found around 900 plants weighing around 252 kilos spread across six rooms.

Farms were uncovered at the former Late Club and Bar Ice in Bank Street in 2014 and in 2021 and one at an old bank in the town centre.
