An estate's only access road which has been 'repeatedly flooding for more than a decade' needs better drainage, according to residents.

Bradshaw Meadows, a suburban group of houses in Bradshaw, is linked to Bradshaw Road via a short downhill stretch of highway which is prone to flooding at the bottom where it meets the main road.

The most recent spate of flooding in the UK caused by Storm Bert saw water pool at the notorious junction on Saturday (November 23) at around 4pm.

The area was also subjected to torrential rainfall in September, prompting ward councillor, Jackie Schofield, to say: "We are looking at infrastructure in that area and there is work being done in the next few weeks to help with flooding."

Christine Murphy, who lives on the estate, said: "It was bad on Saturday in the afternoon.

"When it's flooded there is no other way out, if you're stuck you're stuck.

"We need better drains."

Christine added that it's not particularly bad if you travel slowly, but some drivers are known to go too quickly and make a "big splash".

"It's the drains that are the problem."

The flooding blackspot also lies at the foot of a long downhill stretch of road coming from towards the Bradshaw Fisheries, meaning water rushes down the hill and gathers.

To make matters worse, the route is also busy at peak times.

Speaking to The Bolton News in September, resident Jane Ormrod said: "It always floods around there [Bradshaw Road].

"Looks like I'll have to get my boat out to get home from work."
