An empty former office building could be set to be transformed into a spa offering facials, manicures and more.

If approved the former electrical contractor’s office on Eden Street in Astley Bridge will be turned into a wellness, spa and beauty treatment centre.

Developers say that the transformation will not need many changes to the outside of the building other than a shop front style window facing the yard.

A design and access statement from RA Design and Project Management Ltd said: “Wellness and spa facilities have gained popularity in urban areas due to lifestyle and health trends such as increased stress levels in society, a growing focus on health and wellbeing and the desire for people to retreat and de-stress in aesthetically relaxing environments that offer a sensory and immersive experience.

“The business will bring back into use a vacant building with a use that is more appropriate than the previous use.

“It will create up to eight jobs for local people and is business proposal that is easily accessible for local people with a large catchment area.”

The application to create the spa was first made to Bolton Council on Thursday November 19 this year.

Planners say that the entrance doors on Eden Street will be kept for services on the upper floors of the building.

Services will include beauty treatments like facials, manicures, laser hair removal, massages and micro-fillers.

There will also be wellness and spa facilities, including a steam room, sauna, toilers, showers, reception, offices and storage space.

Outside the yard area will have space for three cars with more space for street parking in the area nearby.

The design and access statement said: “The location is primarily residential so it is targeted that most customers will be from within the local area

“However, the building is on a major road in and out of Bolton and a major bus route and therefore easily accessible from further afield by public transport as well as by road.”

They have proposed that the spa will be open from 9am to 10.30pm from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 9pm on Sundays.

Bolton Council will aim to decide whether or not to approve the plan by Thursday, January 9 next year.
