A bid to build an eighth branch of McDonald's in the borough is up for consideration by the council.

The fast food giant applied for planning permission for a drive-thru at Logistics North, Over Hulton.

It would be the eighth branch of McDonald's in the borough after the two in the town centre and the others in Astley Bridge, Doffcocker, Great Lever, Middlebrook Retail Park and Pavilion Square Retail Park.

It would be alongside Aldi, Burger King, Costa Coffee, Greggs and The Pine Tree Farm in taking advantage of the trade from those on the logistics park as well as the traffic on the motorway and Salford Road.

If approved the branch would be on the open land opposite the Costa Coffee on Cutacre Way.

A spokesperson said: "We are excited about the possibility of a new restaurant in Over Hulton."

(Image: McDonald's) McDonald's is 50 years old in the UK and a "McDonald's at 50" report said there are around 1,435 branches with around 171,415 employees across the country. The "McDonald's at 50" report said there are around 185 branches with around 21,450 employees in the North West.

The fast food giant has a target of 200 new restaurants in the next three years and the logistics park is a target for one of these 200 new restaurants due to its development in the last decade.

The application said: "The application site is to operate as a drive-thru. The application site is to play an important role in serving the population as well as serving the passing trade on the A6.

"Given the location of the site within Logistics North the site will also serve the needs of the employees at the employment development."

There is a consultation on the Bolton Council website and the deadline for a decision by Bolton Council is at around the turn of the year.
