A much anticipated spine road will be coming soon to an area “desperate for more capacity” as a major house building development nears completion.
Bolton West MP Phil Brickell said that the link road from Fettlers Way to Middlebrook at the Horwich Loco Works site is likely to be opened in the spring.
He had been to visit the site on Friday November 15 to meet with representatives of Bellway Homes, Bluemantle and Bolton Council.
Mr Brickell said: “Horwich and the West of Bolton is desperate for more capacity on our roads.
"It is a wonderful and sought after place to live but with that comes strain on infrastructure.
“The new spine road will play a key role in tackling this and will be a through road for use by all.
“While the road is vital, we also need to see services closer to new housing developments.
“One of the main causes of congestion comes from a lack of suitable amenities close to new developments.”
The Horwich Loco Works project in its entirety was will see more than 1,000 new homes built off Chorley New Road.
They will be built over the site of what had once been a renowned engineering works which closed in 1983.
A foundry had been on the site since 2004, but it has since instead been the focus of housing plans.
Mr Brickell said that he hopes that has well as houses, the developers will encourage retailers and public services to be brought to the site.

He said: “I was pleased to have a discussion with the developers regarding retail been added to the site as part of the development.
“It is also something I have reiterated to Government Ministers. A special pot of money from housing developments called Section 106 money needs to be used and utilised efficiently and quickly.
“One of my main focuses for Bolton West will be making sure we have those services for new developments, both commercial and public services, to meet demand.
“I was also pleased to see the plans for greener travel via bikes or walking which should allow for safe passage to Horwich Railway Station, away from the road.”
