A man was taken to hospital after police were called and a road was taped off in Bolton town centre on Tuesday morning.

Police officers and paramedics were called to Bark Street, just off Churchgate in the early hours on Tuesday November 19.

They stayed at the scene for several hours and have since confirmed that they had been called to a concern for welfare.

"Enquiries are on-going."

A cordon was in place for the rest of the morning preventing traffic from passing the stretch of Bank Street between Churchgate and Manor Street.

No other members of the public are believed to have been involved in the incident and no other serious injuries or damage to any nearby property has been reported.

Officers were still at the scene longer into Tuesday morning as the road remained closed between Bank Street and Manor Street.

For much of the Tuesday morning, eyewitnesses reported seeing police officers and paramedics going about their work in the area.

Much of the area between the Bank Street and Manor Street is wasteland ahead of an anticipated housing and hotel development that is set to take place.

The road is one of the key routes into the town centre for people travelling by road from the north eastern parts of the borough.

Drivers had to use other ways into central Bolton while officers went about their work with much of the way into the town centre gridlocked on Tuesday morning.

Several commuters reported delays getting into work and around the town while the road was blocked off.

During this time, eyewitnesses reported seeing an ambulance pulling away from the scene.

By not long after midday on Tuesday the scene had cleared, and traffic was allowed to pass along Bank Street freely again.

Members of the public have been advised to always call 999 in the event of an emergency.
