One of Bolton’s top-rated primary schools is on track to move to its new permanent home within two years.

The Olive School is currently based in office premises on Waterloo Street on the outskirts of the town centre, having opened in 2016.

Plans now put before Bolton Council seek to keep the school, which teaches children between the ages of four and 11, at its temporary home until June 2026 ahead of its anticipated move.

Olive School principal Sabina Saeed said: “We’re excited to see plans for our permanent school site on Tennyson Street continue to progress.

“In collaboration with the Department for Education and its preferred contractor, we are now in the final stages of the design process.

“It’s wonderful to see our vision for a first-class learning environment taking shape where we’ll be able to deliver an exceptional experience for our children, whilst benefiting from the latest sustainable technologies.”

The Olive School, part of the Blackburn-based Star Academies group, was rated as “outstanding” in its most recent Ofsted report in 2019.

The bid to continue using the Waterloo Street office was made to Bolton Council on October 17 this year.

The school is now planning to move into the site occupied by the former Jubilee Centre on Tennyson Street, Halliwell, which will make way for a 420-place modern school.

An agreement was reached between the school and the council in March 2019 to use the former Jubilee Centre site.

This was given a boost by the Jubilee Centre’s move to its new £6M centre on Crompton Way in June 2023.

Ms Saeed said: “We remain on track to move to our fantastic new site in 2026 and plan to stay at our current home on Waterloo Street until then.

“We look forward to our permanent school site on Tennyson Street serving the children and families of Bolton for many generations to come.”

Bolton Council will aim to decide whether to approve the bid to continue using Ashton House by January 25 next year.
