TransPennine Express (TPE) will run trains across the Pennines every 15 minutes.

This comes as the operator is set to reinstate four trains per hour between Manchester and Leeds, providing 'frequent and faster' services on the core routes.

The change is part of a nationwide timetable adjustment by train operators, due to take effect on Sunday, December 15.

TPE aims to offer a 'reliable timetable', with hundreds of additional seats available from December onwards.

From Monday to Saturday, 50 trains will operate in each direction between Liverpool and Manchester stations.

The Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Victoria service will increase to two trains per hour.

These services will offer express journeys, with 'minimal stops' at either Newton-le-Willows or Lea Green.

TPE Nova 1 trains on the Stalybridge to Manchester Victoria route will switch from diesel to electric mode, thanks to the successful electrification in the area.

This change will reduce the carbon impact of the train operator.

Across the TPE network, there will be a '12 per cent increase in seats for customers', providing around 1,300 additional seats daily.

The majority of services operating between Liverpool and Cleethorpes will be six-carriage trains, stopping at Sheffield, Doncaster, and Manchester.

TPE will also make its first stop at Eaglescliffe, providing an hourly service.

Chester-le-Street will now receive hourly calls, and more evening services will connect Manchester and Oxenholme, stopping at Bolton, Preston, and Lancaster.

Castleford, Normanton, and Wakefield customers will also benefit from a new hourly service, operating seven days a week and connecting them to Manchester and York, as well as other stations along this route.
