Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) will be working with transport operators to keep services running smoothly during the current cold snap.

Staff, including TravelSafe Support and Enforcement Officers (TSEOs), will be deployed across the network to assist passengers.

Bus stations and interchanges will be gritted, and trams will be run through the night to clear frost from overhead lines.

Platforms and crossings are also set to be treated with grit and 'anti-icing measures' to ensure safety.

TfGM's control room will be staffed round-the-clock, allowing them to monitor roads and transport services and respond in real-time to any disruptions.

Drivers are advised to take simple precautions to ensure safety, such as driving according to the road conditions, checking tyres, and keeping a fully charged mobile phone and blankets in the car.

Danny Vaughan, chief network officer at TfGM, said: "Temperatures are set to drop significantly over the next couple of days, which could result in dangerous driving conditions as well as potentially causing disruption to our bus and tram networks.

"We want everyone to stay safe over what could be a hazardous period, so it’s really important people do plan their journeys, allow themselves plenty of times – and always have a back-up plan in case of disruption.

"Together with partners, we will be doing everything we can to keep the city moving and everyone safe as they make their journeys across our city region."
