A man was cut from an overturned car after a crash in Horwich yesterday afternoon, Saturday.

Fire crews were called after a two-car crash on Chorley New Road at around 4.30pm.

When they arrived they found a car was on its side.

The crews used specialist cutting equipment to rescue a man from the car before he was checked over by ambulance staff.

It is not been reported whether he suffered serious injuries.

The road was taped off by police at the junction of Winter Hey Lane and Mason Street and reopened later that night.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 4.30pm on Saturday, two fire engines from Bolton Central and Horwich fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Leigh, were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Chorley New Road, Horwich.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene where one of the cars was on its side.

"Firefighters worked to make the car stable, they used cutting equipment, lighting and a long board to rescue a man from the car, before he was assessed at the scene by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“Firefighters were in attendance for around 40 minutes.”
