A woman has been cut out of a car which crashed into a restaurant in Astley Bridge this afternoon, Saturday.

Emergency services were called after a car crashed into Ayaan's restaurant on Old Road at around 2pm.

Fire crews, including a technical response team were called, and used cutting equipment to remove a woman from the car before she was taken to hospital.

A route into the nearby Asda supermarket has been closed by police.

The incident comes less than a month after the restaurant celebrated its third anniversary with an extravagant launch party.

Owner Mohammed Jabir said: "The accident occurred earlier today, luckily for us there has not been much damage to the restaurant itself - only the outside area.

"I hope no one was seriously hurt as a result of the incident.

"Ayaans will remain open for business as usual and we are working to fix the damage as quickly as possible, which is largely just damage to the building's pipes."
