A warning has being issued after reports of youths “setting fires and throwing stones and eggs".

Police said there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in Prestolee.

Cllr Debbie Newall of Kearsley, said: “We’ve heard in the past about young lads kicking footballs around at houses, just being a nuisance really and playing on the grass behind elderly people’s bungalows.

“I had an incident a couple of years ago when there were reports of an egging of a residents house and the police were able to escalate patrols afterwards.

“It’s a very congested road around there and a very narrow road, and of course there are a lot more cars around, so I think part of the problem is also kids kicking balls around.”

She added: “It seems to me it’s the same kind of thing that was happening  a few years ago so I can speak to the police and see if they can step up patrols again.

“We’re always monitoring our areas for anti-social behaviour and will always alert the agencies where we can, who tend to be fairly responsive.”

Cllr Newall said she had also heard reports about anti-social behaviour around the nearby Grosvenor estate and she was planning to meet with residents to hear about their concerns.

Police officers have said that they have already identified several of the youths believed to have been involved in the Prestolee incidents and will be speaking to their parents.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “We have seen an increase in anti-social behaviour reports in Prestolee

“The anti-social behaviour is youth related near to Bridge Street and Prestolee Primary School, ranging from setting fires to throwing eggs and stones at residential properties

“We have already identified several youths and will be speaking to parents as this behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Prestolee has a great community spirit, and we don't want the actions of this group affecting it.”

A further police statement said: "The anti-social behaviour is centred around Bridge Street, the corner shop and school grounds at Prestolee Primary.

"The police are working with residents and the school to identify the youths concerned.

"Once identified they will be put on the Council's ABC pathway.

"Obviously any crimes committed will be dealt with accordingly.

"I will continue to liaise with all concerned until hopefully this situation is resolved to the satisfaction of our residents and of course, the school."

Officers have appealed for anyone with any further information about the incidents to get in touch by emailing 65429@gmp.police.uk.
