When Postmistress ‘Penny Black’ is discovered lying on the floor of her establishment with a post sack over her head and a letter opener protruding from her stomach – a web of lies, betrayal and deceit begins to unravel.

Chris, who is a volunteer at Rivington Chapel, said: “Finding ‘the setting’ is always the starting point for my whodunits and it was my wife, June, who first suggested ‘the Post Office’ as an intriguing setting.

“The Village Post Office, we agreed, is a natural community hub where all manner of disparate characters congregate.

“Yet, from the point of view of a murder mystery playwright, it’s also a place where scandalous gossip, petty jealousies and historic village tensions could surface with alarming (if exaggeratedly comic) consequences.”

Among the cast for the play is Chris Martin, Kathy Carpenter, David Carpenter, Edward Hesketh, John Winstanley and Jackie Rypel.
