A woman who has been described as the "heartbeat of the school" has been given an award to honour her efforts in this year's The Bolton News Education Awards 2024.

Natalie Bostock of St Stephen's CE Primary in Kearsley won Teaching Assistant of the Year. The award was sponsored by Bolton Council.

Natalie has worked at the school for the last 30 years, bringing her 'kindness' to generations of families. She now works as a higher level teaching assistant.

Headteacher, Paul Puckey, described her as "so dedicated" and the "heartbeat of the school".

Her nomination, written by colleague Kirsty Gregson, said: "I would like to nominate Mrs Bostock who is currently on her 31st year at St Stephen’s Primary school.

"I first met her when I was only eight years-old and she joined the school as a TA and straight away we all fell in love with her. She was caring, kind and nurturing to all the children.

"My oldest started school and he adored her, she was just the same as when I was a child. I then decided I wanted to have this impact on other children’s life’s and I re-trained as a TA and volunteered at the school.

"I now work there and we are very close friends outside of work as well. Even at the age of 26 she was still impacting on my life and I’m forever grateful."

She added: "This wonderful lady really deserves some recognition for all the life’s she has touched and changed throughout the year.

"I personally want to thank her for being that “teacher” I would always remember and then looking after my children like they were her own whilst they were at primary school."

Upon being presented the award in a surprise assembly, Natalie said: "I really don't know what to say, apart from thank you so much.

"I feel so lucky and privileged to work with the amazing children and families and staff. A special thanks goes to Ms Gregson for your lovely, lovely, kind words."

She added: "It is unbelievable really, it feels like it is a bit of a dream, it's surreal.

"When you think how many TAs there are in Bolton and they've picked little old me from St Stephen's, it doesn't feel real at all."
