The road over a popular Bolton hiking trail is set to remain closed until the end of the month as works take pace.
The road over Winter Hill, which is located towards Rivington Pike, will remain closed whilst maintenance works are in progress at the TV mast site, including the replacement of the main mast guy wires.
Winter Hill Mast is famously the highest television transmitter in Britain. stands at 309.5 metres.
The affected areas are currently closed off by fencing with works continuing from 7am – 6pm, seven days per week.
A spokesperson for Arqiva, who owns the mast site said: “Mast maintenance works are in progress at the TV mast site at Winter Hill.

“These works include working at height, involving replacing the main mast guy wires.
“The road closure is expected to be in place until the end of the month when we expect to pause the work for the winter. We will be back on site in the spring.”
During the works, large vehicles will be moving around site, there will be heavy lifting winching operations along the main guy wire corridors and in the main mast compound area.
The people behind the works say that although some routes may appear to be safe and clear, proceeding beyond a certain point is dangerous.
