If ever a photograph summed up post war Bolton, it’s possibly this one.
Taken in September 1947 it shows the Back-o’-th’-Bank area with the power station which provided much of the town with its electricity.
At this point Bradshaw Brook had become the River Tonge which the power station and many of the mills used.
On the right we think are the imposing Dart and Denvale Mills. It’s interesting to see other mill chimneys in the background which at this point would still be working to full capacity.
