Bolton College has launched its official “Esports” team along with a new partnership to help students learn to “thrive in the industry.”

The Deane Road based college will be working with Middlebrook Scan Computers to help deliver the programme, while the Esports team has been dubbed “Bolton Titans.”

Scan Computers will feature their logo on student uniforms and merchandise and will provide insights and practical knowledge about the industry.

College assistant principal of curriculum and stakeholder engagement Catherine Langstreth said: “We are proud to partner with Scan Computers, a company that shares our vision of developing the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the Esports industry.

“This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn from experts and engage with industry professionals.

“We are excited to see what the future holds for this partnership and look forward to continuing to work with Scan to nurture the next generation of talent who will lead the sector's future success.”

Bolton College first launched its Esports programme in September to help students join an industry that is now worth around £111M to the UK economy.

As well as gaming, Esports can also help students go on to careers in broadcasting, marketing and business development.

The Bolton Titans will be competing in games like Valorant, Apex Legends, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League.

Plans are underway for students to go on site visits to Scan’s headquarters to give them real life experience that will work alongside their academic programme at the college.

Bolton College previously worked with Scan Computers to create its state-of-the-art Esports suite, the hub of the College’s Esports programmes.

Scan director of gaming and Esports Michael “ODEE” O’Dell said: "Gaming has been a core focus for Scan for over 30 years, working closely in partnership with esports organisations.

“Our ground-breaking 3XS Systems gaming PCs are at the forefront of design and technology, so we’re delighted to partner with Bolton College, helping to enrich the student experience and support upcoming generations of esports professionals.”
