A teacher-turned-fitness instructor is preparing for her group's "biggest ever" challenge to help vulnerable parents.
Alice Burnham, from Harwood, runs Family Inclusive Training (F.I.T) studio, which offers mums and babies a holistic space to socialise and get moving safely after giving birth.
She set up the Spring Vale Street studio in Tottington almost five years ago after having her own children and struggling to find an inclusive space to work out.
Alice said: “There aren’t many fitness spaces where parents can bring their babies and toddlers along while they train and I wanted to fill that gap.
“There can be a lot of guilt around having to find childcare, especially when it comes to attending classes, but we provide a child-friendly safe space where the whole family can come along.”
They host several classes and events, from F.I.T Round My Baby, where parents can incorporate children into the workout, to solo adult-only boot camps.
Alice added: “We have child-safe equipment such as soft barbells with the heavy stuff in a completely different space. It’s all about flexibility and helping mums get out of the house.
“We can support parents from six weeks post-partum all the way up while helping them have fun and bond.
“It’s always nice seeing the babies who have grown up with it start to mimic the moves, it’s a natural thing for them to do after a while.”
Alice and her team are hosting an event in Horwich next month to encourage donations for Bolton domestic abuse charity, Fortalice.
Taking place at Bolton Arena from 11am on Friday, November 29, the sponsored workout, which will be the studio's largest event to date, will involve a fun, low-impact F.I.T Round My Baby class with raffle prizes, refreshments and goody bags for all participants.
In return, people are asked to make a minimum donation of £5 and bring along any toys or clothes in good condition to be donated to Fortalice, which provides frontline service and refuge to those impacted by domestic abuse.
In addition to the Tottington studio, F.I.T also has classes in Bolton, led by instructor Keileigh Gibson and in Darwen, led by Laura Raby.
Alice said: “Most of us have stuff lying around that we want to get rid of so it’s a great way to raise donations for people who need them.
“I wanted to bring people from all of our classes together and the arena seemed like the perfect space because of the size.
“We’re aiming to raise £500 but it would be wonderful if we raised any more.”
