AN ‘EXTREMELY rare’ 50p coin depicting one of Beatrix Potter’s beloved characters has gone on the market for an eye-watering six-figure asking price.
The item is being sold on eBay from a seller in Glasgow for a whopping £149,999 asking price with 50 per cent of the profits going to an official eBay charity listing.
The coin features Benjamin Bunny from the Tale of Benjamin Bunny, released back in September 1904 as a sequel to The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902.
In the book, Benjamin Bunny and his cousin Peter Rabbit return to Mr. McGregor's garden to retrieve the clothes Peter lost there during his previous adventure.
Originally minted in 2017, the coin also comes with the expected depiction of HRH Queen Elizabeth II on the back.
The coin, which is being sold by user ‘BargainToolsAndGoods’, belongs to the Decimal Coinage category and is part of the British Coins and UK Coins collection.

Just last week, a coin depicting Mr Jeremy Fisher was listed online for £10,000.
Despite the fact that the item has a much more recent history than the popular character it celebrates, the coin has become a well sought after collectable.
