A view which we suspect may be familiar to many Looking Back readers. Taken in 1957, this photograph shows the top of Churchgate going on to Deansgate in Bolton.
On the left is the Swan Hotel. The imposing building lining Deansgate really are quite impressive from this viewpoint.
On the corner with Bradshawgate you can see the upmarket shoe shop Vernon Humpage. Did anyone shop there?
