A newly elected Bolton MP has taken up her first key post looking at “parental rights and closing gender and ethnicity pay gaps".

Kirith Entwistle was first elected to parliament for Bolton North East at the general election in July.

She has now been selected to serve as a member of the Women and Equalities Select Committee and has started to work with charities and stakeholders.

Ms Entwistle said: “I am excited to take on this new role in Parliament.

“I’ve already hit the ground running, holding meetings with End Violence Against Women and Pregnant Then Screwed, working with Women’s Faith Forum and Fortalice in the constituency, to talk about how we can improve rights for women from all different communities and backgrounds, and supporting a campaign by Dad Shift with their call for better parental rights and paternity leave”

Ms Entwistle was chosen by other members of the committee to serve alongside them.

The role of the cross-party committee is to take a detailed look at the government's work on equality laws and policy in and to help drive improvements.
