A bike that was reportedly “causing issues” in Leigh has been seized by police.

Officers from the East Leigh Neighbourhood Policing Team were targeting anti-social behaviour last week through the use of off-road bikes as part of Operation Hurricane.

The operation was launched in July this year, which saw a coordinated response to tackle and reduce anti-social behaviour (ASB) on motorbikes, e-bikes and quadbikes.

The bike was allegedly “causing issues” in the Leigh South area, namely Alderley Lane and Butt Street.

The rider was stopped on Sunday by patrolling officers as he was riding down Rossall Crescent.

 The vehicle was seized by officers and the rider was reported for summons for several alleged driving offences, police said.

Earlier this month a Section 59 order was placed on Longsight Park in Bolton.

The Section 59 increases police powers to seize off-road and e-bikes where they are being driven off road or in public spaces.

The order also makes it an offence for a person to fail to stop a vehicle when required to do so by a police officer punishable by a fine of up to £1000.

Forces across the UK confiscated 937 e-bikes in the year to August 11, according to Freedom of Information (FoI) figures obtained by the PA news agency.

That is compared with 511 during the previous 12 months.
