Households in Bolton were left without water for 24 hours - with the issue resolved this morning.
United Utilities said burst water main - which affected houses in the Astley Bridge area - was fixed this morning.
Reports of water flow issues were first made yesterday (October 17) and a United United Utilities team was on-site during the day to identify where the leak was, and then later restored supplies in the early hours.
As they had to dig down to get to the main, it will need 're-instating' in future.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “There was a burst on a water main which affected supplies to some properties in the Astley Bridge area.
"The team worked overnight to locate and isolate the leak. Bottled water was supplied to customers on the Priority Services Register.
"Supplies have been restored and water is flowing normally again. We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
Residents near Astley Bridge Conservative Club reported their water was back to normal just before 10am today.
One local said whether you would or wouldn't be affected by the leak was a matter of "hit and miss", with streets just a few feet away not having any water issues.
Astley Bridge councillor, John Walsh, said at the time: "I'm aware of a major water leak that has hit a gas main as well, which has led to complications."
