Here’s a photo from the archive which has got us intrigued.
We’re hoping that Looking Back readers can perhaps shed a little more light on to it.
We know it was taken in November 1980 but the only details attached to the picture state ‘car park at the side of Blighty’s, Farnworth’. So just a photograph of a car park from 40-odd years ago then.
But look closely. On the right of the picture you can clearly make out four large plaques or flagstone which look very much like gravestones.
We know Blighty’s - one of the area’s top night spots in the Sixties and Seventies - was on Church Street, so was this the graveyard for the church? And did people really park their cars on the graves? Had the graves been moved and the bodies exhumed but the memorial stones left in situ?
