A proud Bolton woman is heading to a glittering grand final this Friday for a chance to take home the 79th Miss Great Britain sash.

Helaina Morgan will be battling it out at The Miss Great Britain Final at the Athena Events Venue in Leicester.

The 2024 Miss Greater Manchester has spoken of the importance of charity as she prepares for the big day on Friday.

She has taken her high heels off and got stuck in to as much charity work as she can find.

Helaina’s list of charity work is extensive having run the 5k Pretty Muddy at Tatton Park, 62 miles in March for Cancer Research, a Moana children's party for Alex’s Wish and having a constant presence with the Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

Yet, Helaina is not just representing Bolton and Greater Manchester, her heritage and healthy lifestyle are also traits she wishes to share.

She said “I’m curvy and 30, representing Britain mostly, but I’m also proud of my heritage as an Egyptian and Italian.

"Multiculturalism is what Britain is all about."

She highlights the importance of womanhood, and the trials and tribulations she and others are put through in the modern age.

When asked about what she would do with the title of Miss Britain, besides raising awareness of her chosen charities, she said: “I want to inspire others to do what they love. That older woman can still do it too.” According to Helaina, despite being the age of just 30, she said that, until very recently, it was considered old in the profession of pageants.

Beauty pageants are in her blood, as Helaina recalls her mother's beauty pageant days in the late 1980s.

She said: “It's great that pageants are opening and adapting to representation in modern times, while also being traditional in their competition."

In recent years beauty pageants have been a topic of controversy, on occasion bringing negative feedback from outsiders. Helaina sheds light on her experience and said: “Some people think beauty pageants are a negative environment, but it's girls helping girls."

She adds that “if you are looking for fame and fortune you are in the wrong place”.

Miss Greater Manchester and sidekick from ‘Hearing Dogs for deaf people’.

Helaina has a warm heart for those suffering from deafness or hard of hearing, her work with ‘Hearing Dogs for Deaf People’ has helped promote the charity and its work. She said: “Everyone has heard of dogs for the blind, but not as many known about dogs for the deaf."

Helaina’s work with the charity started after discovering a co-worker was hard of hearing. She decided to learn sign language, and after much hard work qualified in British signing. She said: “We take for granted our able hearing, and often forget those that struggle.”
