A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and neglect after a car overturned with a child inside.

Shortly before 5.30am this morning, Sunday, a car overturned on Lanes Head Road, Oldham.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called and arrested a 24-year-old-woman on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and child neglect.

According to police, the woman and child, as well as a man who was also in the car, left the area but have since been found. 

No serious injuries have been reported.

A GMP spokesperson said: "A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and driving under the influence of drugs, after a car overturned on Lane Head Road, Oldham, shortly after 5.30am this morning (Sunday).

"It was reported that, after the car overturned, which contained a man, woman and child, the occupants left the scene.

"They have since been located and we’ve confirmed that no serious injuries were sustained."

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Huddersfield Road was closed as police were carrying out work to "reconstruct" the details surrounding a fatal collision, which happened in March.

The road was closed for several hours this morning.

The closure stretched from the Asda store up to Equitable Street.

GMP has urged anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage which may have captured the Lanes Head Road incident, to contact 101, quoting log 603 of 13/10/24.
