Hard work does not go unrecognised.

Just ask bright young thing Tegan Pilling who was awarded the 2024 Westhoughton Rotary Club Tony Budd Jubilee Bursary Award after her exceptional results in this summer's GCSE examinations.

She received top grades in nine subjects and was this year's top performing student at Westhoughton High School.

Tegan and her parents were invited to a special presentation evening to receive her award and celebrate her success.

Headteacher Neil Coe, introduced Tegan to an audience of Westhoughton Rotarians, praising and emphasising her examination success.

He was delighted that she had won. She joined a long list of worthy winners who had gone on to achieve further success and bring more honour to the school.

Past President Ronald Bell explained that the club had made its first bursary presentation in 2008.

The club had wished to inaugurate a special award in the Club’s Diamond Jubilee year as part of their celebration of the then 60 years of service to the town.

In conjunction with the high school, it had been agreed to make it an annual award to encourage and celebrate academic success.

Mr Bell said that he was delighted that Tegan’s mother and father were present to share this celebration of her achievements.

She was now at Runshaw College, studying A-levels with her next aim being to go on to degree studies at university.

John Oakes, Westhoughton President, congratulated Tegan on her success and then presented her with £200 Waterstones Gift card, a Rotary Certificate and a mini trophy.

Her name had also been added to the main trophy shield.

He wished her well in her present studies and future career.
