A  junction where there have been number of crashes is being looked at after yet another smash.

A two vehicle crash took place on Chorley New Road with the junction of Winter Hey Lane  on Sunday evening at around 8pm.

It is currently unclear whether police arrived at the scene, but no one was taken to hospital at the time of the crash.

The latest crash has once again raised concerns about the safety of the junction among residents.

Earlier this year calls were made to implement a filter lane to allow traffic to turn off Chorley New Road to make it safer.

Although the cause of this crash is not known, it has again called into question about the junction and other motorists using the road.

Cllr David Grant said: “It’s always distressing to see vehicle collisions on this scale and several areas in Horwich are getting increasingly dangerous and local councillors are looking at solutions particularly around protection of children crossing our roads.

“Regardless of calming measures poor and dangerous driving will always cost lives.

“Local councillors are looking to have this junction assessed within the town centre regeneration for either a filter lane or signal cameras.

“I hope everyone in this accident has a full recovery."

The crossroads of Chorley New Road, Winter Hey Lane and Mason Street is one of the major junctions in the town, where traffic from Bolton, Chorley, Blackrod and Horwich town centre converges.

There is enough space for four cars to pull alongside each other on both sides of Chorley New Road due to its width, but if two cars travelling in the same direction stay on the road rather than turning off, they have to filter into single file.
