According to Gov.UK, the minimum penalty for speeding is a £100 fine and three penalty points added to your licence.
Those who build up 12 or more penalty points within a period of three years could be disqualified from driving.
People who are caught by a speed camera are sent a notice of intended prosecution and a section 172 notice within 14 days, which must be returned to police by the registered keeper, telling them who was driving the car.
Those who plead not guilty can be fined more and get more penalty points if the court decides they are guilty of speeding.
The fines are usually a percentage of weekly income, up to a maximum of £1,000 for most roads, or £2,500 for motorways.
Those who are still within two years of passing their driving test will have their licence revoked if they build up six or more penalty points.
