The family of Bolton’s renowned disco twins has called for community support after one of the DJing duo suffered a sudden health crisis.

David and Arthur have been spinning tunes around Bolton for over 50 years - known as Twins Revival Disco - having played their first gig on August 11, 1973, which was a 21st birthday party at The Market Hotel, Brackley Street, Farnworth.

However, the pair’s family were struck by tragedy last week when Arthur, who lives in Astley Bridge, suffered a sudden stroke after two bleeds on the brain.

Arthur's nephew, Bernard Coughlan said: “It came out of nowhere, I had met my dad and uncle in the pub as normal when I noticed that Arthur was slurring his words.

“He wasn’t making sense – we all noticed straight away. He didn’t know his own name and he didn’t know any of our kids’ names.

“We were worried about him and gave him aspirin, but he continued to struggle and so we called an ambulance.”

Arthur and his family were transported to Royal Bolton Hospital.

Bernard added: “I can’t praise the Northwest Ambulance Service enough; the ambulance was meant to arrive in four hours – instead it took six minutes.

“After a four hour wait in A&E, Arthur had his CAT scan, and it came back that they’d found a bleed on the braid.

“My father, David, who is ten minutes older than his brother, is so upset and scared, it’s his twin and they’ve grown up together. They’ve spent every day together. Without him, he’s scared, and he’s devastated.

“They’re like fish and chips, they come together as one and they’re never apart.

“It’s been a wake up call for them both to take care of their health, they’re both 74 now so can’t take it for granted anymore.”

Arthur received brain surgery shortly after his diagnosis, they drilled two holes in his skull to relieve the pressure.

The DJ twin is currently recovering in Salford Royal Hospital.

The pair were working at manufacturers Markland Scowcroft, in Bromley Cross, when they first started, packing out many a dance floor at venues across the region, including the Rawson Arms Hotel, Peel Street, Farnworth, and Fletcher Street Barracks, Bolton.

The twins have played to thousands of partygoers over the years, at celebrations including birthdays, with recent events having been held at New Globe, Duke Street, Bolton, and Hilltop Sports and Social Club in Blackrod.

Bernard said: “We want to encourage others to provide their support to Arthur, he was a big part of the community and was loved by many.

“He’s not able to talk as of right now because he’s still on morphine, but he has come around.

“He doesn’t have any kids, but he was so loved in our family and community. We want to get that support behind us to support Arthur whilst he is on the road to recovery.”
