A Bolton bank branch closed for six weeks for a refurbishment is not a part of the redevelopment of Crompton Place.

The HSBC bank branch closed two weeks ago and up until October 28 with a pop-up in place at the Central Library.

To all appearances the building is part of the complex which the council wants to demolish and to develop within the Bolton Town Centre Masterplan but the building is not part of the complex according to the council leader.

Bolton Council leader Nick Peel said it is to be freestanding following the demolition and the development which is set to start at around the turn of the year once Bolton Primark moves out of its old site and moves into its new site at Market Place.

Cllr Peel said: "It is not to be demolished. It is a misconception but the HSBC building is not a part of Crompton Place so the HSBC building is not a part of the redevelopment.

"We are able to demolish around it so it is freestanding."

"We are pleased our branch is getting a refresh with some painting, some signage and the installation of new, state-of-the-art cash machines."

The HSBC bank branch is closed up until October 28 with a pop-up in place at the Central Library on Mondays, on Wednesdays and on Fridays between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

The Central Library pop-up is one of around 2,000 pop-ups this year and it is increasing its involvement in Banking Hubs across the country.
