Mayor of Bolton Cllr Andy Morgan attended the Royal Society of St George (Bolton branch) Lord Nelson Annual dinner.
The society's main social events are centred around its annual St Georges Day Dinner and Admiral Lord Nelson's Birthday on September 29.
On this date, members plant, on behalf of The Society, English Oak trees from the same genus as those that built HMS Victory, all over the borough in memorial of noted people of Bolton who would not have otherwise been honoured.
Cllr Morgan said: "The Bolton Branch, like others, aims to foster pride in England's traditions and history through social and cultural activities within the community.
"It also supports charitable causes, encourages goodwill to all and community spirit."
The dinner was held at Old Links Golf Club.
The Royal Society of St. George was founded in 1894.
Its first Royal Patron was Queen Victoria; and the society has enjoyed the Patronage of every reigning monarch since.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in 1963, granted the Society its own Royal Charter, a distinction of which its members are justifiably proud.
The Society was further granted Arms in 1990.
His Majesty The King is the new Patron of the Society.
