Approval has been granted to create a new four-bedroom shared house as a way of bringing more “low-cost housing” to Bolton.

This comes after plans to create a four-bedroom house in multiple occupation with mixed use offices at the old Triangle Works on Back Darwin Street in Halliwell were given the go-ahead.

Two similar bids had previously been refused but council planning officials felt that the latest version of the plans addressed concerns they had had about living conditions.

A statement said: “The current proposal has removed the bedrooms from ground floor, retaining an office space.”

It added: “The proposal will create a form of lower cost housing which will meet a particular need, thereby making a small but positive contribution to the number of households and mix of housing.”

Transforming the building will also include external alterations and putting up a 2.4M wall.

The ground floor office will be accessed by the existing roller shutters from Back St Thomas Street.

There will also be a new Juliet balcony sliding door replacing roller shutters and an existing access door and window, while the shared house will also include a washroom.

The most recent application was put to Bolton Council on Tuesday August 27 this year.

The authority announced that they had approved the bid on Monday September 23.
