The Mayor of Bolton took a step back in time to the Horwich Heritage Centre to celebrate e Bolton's rich heritage.
Accompanied by the Mayoress, Karen Holdsworth, Cllr Morgan received a tour of the cultural centre which serves as a hub for historical research, education and displays focusing on local history including the Horwich Loco Works.
The centre, which was opened in 1985, also hosts events, talks, exhibitions and walking tours to highlight Horwich’s contributions to industry and highlight the social history of the town.
The group marks its 34th anniversary this year and aims include to stimulate public interest and appreciation of the area, preserve features of great historical interest, promote tourism and give advice to local services.
The centre is staffed by volunteers and relies heavily on public donations and memberships, which are £10 per annum. The society currently boasts around 200 members.
Events are regularly held at the heritage centre and next month will see a visit from Patrick Maloney on the “recent pre-historic discoveries in Aspull”.
Those interested in becoming a member can contact the heritage centre on 07789367677 or via the website.
